Amar Singh College organises Extension Lecture on Har Ghar Tiranga

Commemorate the 75 years of nation’s Independence, UGC Affairs Committee, Amar Singh College, under the aegis of Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, today organized an Extension Lecture titled “Importance of Democracy, Fundamental Duties and National Symbols.” The lecture was held at Taseer Hall of the College and was delivered by Prof.

Tafazul Hussain, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Amar Singh College. The lecture was attended by a large number of students and faculty members of the College.

In his welcome address, Prof. Bashir Ahmad Rather, Principal, Amar Singh College, highlighted the series of ongoing initiatives and programmes organized by Amar Singh College under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav ever since the honourable Prime Minister initiated the Mahotsav in March 2021. Prof.

Bashir Ahmad Rather emphasized on the great value and sanctity of National Flag and other National Symbols beyond the ceremonial occasions. He exhorted upon the students and faculty members to inculcate more commitment, patriotic dedication and responsibility towards the nation building.

In his lecture, Prof. Tafazul Hussain traced the rich history of democracy and republicanism in India. He outlined the founding values of Indian nation which include democracy, republicanism, and pluralism. He called upon all the participants especially students to fully sensitize themselves about the fundamental duties and rights that the Indian Constitution offers to every citizen regardless of their colour, caste and creed, and how this is a great treasure that everyone needs to cherish and preserve.

He further said, it was a great honour and moment of pride for the country that despite its enormous diversity and countless challenges, the nation has been able to evolve as a much more democratic, prosperous and stronger country in these 75 years of Independence much to the envy of many political theoreticians. Prof. Tafazul Hussain also explored the great significance and value of India’s national institutions and symbols in how they are highly important to connote the unity, integrity and sovereignty of India.

At the end, a formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr Nahida, Head, Department of Botany, and Convener, UGC Affairs Committee, Amar Singh College. She informed 75th year of Independence have been the driving force behind this whole process. The idea behind this initiative is to invoke the feeling of patriotism in the heart of the people and to promote awareness about the Indian National Flag.

She informed the participants that a good number of events and programmes shall be conducted viz a viz Har Ghar Tiranga under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
