Bandipora, 03 Jan: Police and paramilitary forces carried out random searches, area-domination and drill exercises in various areas of district Bandipora a day ahead of celebration of Republic Day.
Security forces have intensified surveillance and area domination operations in Bandipora following militancy-related incidents, a senior security official said. Anti-insurgency operations were intensified as part of a proactive strategy to foil any plans of militants to stage any attacks on security forces in the Bandipora, the official said.
Searches and surveillance enhanced across Bandipora district. Police and security forces conducted searches and air surveillance in Hajin, sumbal and Bandipora town. Naka checking as well as area domination has also been increased manifold.
The searches were jointly conducted by police and paramilitary forces. “Measures have been put in place to ensure that the Republic Day passes off peacefully,” a police officer said. “Drills, drones and area domination are part of the multi-tier security being put in place for the peaceful conduct of Republic Day.”
Checking of vehicles and frisking of passengers was carried out at all the entry and exits points of the city. An eyewitness said that mock drills of the security forces were seen at many areas of Bandipora.
“As the situation has more or less normalised on the law and order front, the anti-terrorist operations have been intensified to ensure ultras do not stage any attacks,” he said.
As part of the drill, security has been beefed up around vital installations including the main places.
Additional security bunkers are being constructed in the area and elsewhere in the area to prevent militants from moving from one place to another, the official said.
Extended security perimeters have been established around district and other vital installations by creating ‘prohibited zones’ with the use of concertina wires, he said.
